Transfer Membranes Manufactured, Tested, and Stocked by GE Osmonics
Date presented: 02 May 1997
Unlike many transfer membrane suppliers, GE Osmonics manufactures all of its
nitrocellulose, PVDF, and nylon membranes that we sell. Our transfer membranes
are used in key research and testing done around the world.
Nylon
GE Osmonics manufactures a complete line of nylon membranes to match all of
your applications. Magna nylon offers higher binding capacity than nitrocellulose
membranes and works well in a wide variety of applications. MagnaProbe is specifically
designed to offer a higher number of reprobings than other membranes. Nylon
membranes are also available as notched and gridded discs for use in Colony/Plaque
lifts.
PVDF
The PVDF-Plus is a naturally hydrophobic transfer membrane designed to deliver
the highest binding capacity and lowest background in protein analysis applications.
Nitrocellulose
GE Osmonics manufactures two pure nitrocellulose transfer membranes. NitroBind
is the classic unsupported pure nitrocellulose membrane used for all protein
and immunoblotting applications. NitroPure is a supported pure nitrocellulose
membrane combining the characteristics of nitrocellulose with the strength
of nylon. It outperforms standard nitrocellulose in reprobing applications
of DNA/RNA/Protein when extensive handling is required. Most other suppliers
buy membranes from a manufacturer and sell them under their label. The chart
below shows which of the market leaders actually make the transfer membranes
they sell.

Transfer Membranes Manufactured by GE Osmonics
The chart below lists the catalog numbers for the wide range of precut circles,
sheets and roll configurations GE Osmonics offers. To choose the catalog number
for your specific requirement, simply locate the size desired in the first
column or the apparatus manufacturer in the second column. Then move across
the column to the membrane of your choice. Only the 0.45 micron pore sizes
are listed below. Call GE Osmonics for 0.1 and 0.22 micron pore size information,
or refer to the following product specific pages.
