Product Description

GE glass fiber are biologically inert, autoclavable and highly resistant to oxidizing agents and weak acids. Glass fiber can be used to extend the life of a final filter as a prefilter or they can be used alone for low cost sample clarification. Glass fiber without binders are designed for solvent filtration or gravimetric analysis to avoid binder extractables. These filters are primarily used as a prefilter to extend a final membranes' throughput and for filtering high dirt-containing aqueous solutions. Filters without binders are recommended for analytical and gravimetric determinations.

Prefilters increase the speed of the filtration process by trapping large particles before they reach the final membrane filter. Subsequently, filtration time is cut down and the frequency and cost of replacing membrane filters is reduced. For upstream protection of a membrane within a filter holder, the use of a prefilter that is slightly smaller in diameter than the main filter is recommended. The smaller diameter allows the prefilter to fit inside the O-ring or filter funnel holder seal, thereby ensuring a positive membrane seal. If used as the main filter medium, a prefilter with a diameter exactly the same size as the filter holder is recommended.

Glass fiber filters are classed as "nominal" rather than "absolute" filters. A glass fiber filter rated at 1 µm usually means that some percentage, for example 95%, of all particles of that size or greater will be retained by the filter.
Because of the high dirt-loading capacity of glass fiber filters, they are often used to protect membrane filters, giving a combination of excellent throughput and absolute retention.

G40 Glass Fiber without Binder

  • Nominal pore size of 1.0 µm
  • Recommended for solvent filtration, gravimetric analysis, contamination analysis of wastewater and industrial effluents, suspended solids analysis of industrial waters and waste waters. Low absorption makes this filter ideal for scintillation counting
  • Average retention efficiency
  • Highest dirt handling capacity
  • Protection of 0.45 µm final filters or smaller
  • Autoclavable

TCLP Glass Fiber Filters Without Binders

Borosilicate glass fiber filters without Binders, 0.7µm, are designed for use in U.S. EPA Method 1311 Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). The TCLP is designed to determine the mobility of both organic and inorganic contaminates present in liquid, solid and multiphase wastes. The Federal Regulations require the filters for this application be made of borosilicate glass fiber, contain no binder materials and have an effective pore size of 0.6 to 0.8 microns. GE Osmonics' TCLP glass fiber filters have a pore size of 0.7 microns and are binder free. They are used in Zero-Headspace Extractor Vessels for determining the mobility of volatile organics and Hazardous Waste Filtration units for determination of semi-volatiles. When evaluating the mobility of the metals, filters should be acid washed prior to use by rinsing with 1N nitric acid followed by three consecutive rinses with deionized distilled water (a minimum of 1 liter per rinse is recommended).

Most retentive grade of prefilter offered by GE Osmonics. Often used to collect very fine protein precipitates or for clarifying chemically aggressive solutions that are not compatible with standard membrane filters.

G07 Glass Fiber without Binder

  • Effective pore size of 0.6 - 0.8 microns
  • Use for U.S. EPA Method 1311 Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)
  • Made of borosilicate glass fiber
  • No binders

Specifications
